About The 2 Series

At the more compact end of the BMW model selection is the 2 Series, a subcompact executive coupe or convertible that was first launched back in 2014. This makes it one of the newer models, unlike the 7 Series, for example, which has been around since the 1970s.

The first generation included a coupe (F22), a convertible (F23), and the high-specification M2 Competition (F87). Another two variants were also released during the lifespan of the first-gen models, including a 5-door compact van called the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer — along with a longer wheelbase version known as the Gran Tourer — and a 4-door coupe model that arrived in 2019 called the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.

Early base models ran on a 1.5liter 3-cylinder turbo gasoline engine with the option for a 2-liter version instead. Those opting for the M2 got a more powerful S55 inline-6 turbo engine that could deliver up to 444hp and 406 lb-ft of torque.

When the 2 Series first arrived, it came as a big improvement on the older BMW 1 Series Coupe, known by its model number E82. The 2 Series features better 50:50 weight distribution, a more advanced MacPherson suspension system, and even extra trunk space compared to its predecessor.

The latest generation of BMW 2 Series arrived in 2021, and to the pleasure of many it still offers the same fun driving dynamics while also still having the more traditional and more slender BMW kidney grille as opposed to the new more vertically orientated larger one. The interiors aren’t exactly as luxurious as a Mercedes S-Class, but quality still abounds thanks to there being no cheap plastic, and plenty of soft-touch and high-end materials covering every square inch.

Other great standard equipment includes an 8.8” infotainment screen, voice commands, Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10-speaker stereo system, and much more available to choose from in BMW packages.
