About The CX-90
The three-row, 8-passenger full-size 2024 Mazda CX-90 is a new model by Mazda that prioritizes the comfort of every passenger. The all-new crossover SUV rivals the Mazda CX-9, serving as its refinement, becoming the car factory’s top flagship. It’s the automaker’s second vehicle to use the rear and all-wheel drive with longitudinal engine layout in Large Group Product after the CX-60.
Set to compete with other three-row SUVs like Kia Telluride, Volkswagen Atlas, Hyundai Palisade, Toyota Highlander, and Honda Pilot, the CX-90 borrows the Kinematic Posture Control technology (applies braking to the inner rear wheel after sensing high G-forces around a corner) from CX-60 and 2022 MX-5/Miata.
The Petrol Mazda CX-90 comes with a 3.3-liter Inline 6 Turbo engine, with two variations of differing power (3.3 L e-Skyactiv G turbo I6-mild hybrid.) and a Plug-in Hybrid -PHEV (2.5 L e-Skyactiv PHEV I4). However, all models share an 8-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission.
The petrol mild hybrid has an engine displacement of 3,283 cc (3.3L) but with two variations. The first engine has an output of 209 kW (280 hp) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) combined with a 12.2 kW (16 hp) and 153 Nm (113 lb-ft) M Hybrid Boost Integrated starter motor-generator output. It has a 0.33 kWh (44.4 V) lithium-ion battery and a top speed of 204 km/h. The motor and engine power can propel the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds.
The second engine variation has an output of 254 kW (341 hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) combined with an M Hybrid Boost Integrated starter motor-generator output of 12.2 kW (16 hp) and 153 Nm (113 lb-ft). It shares the battery with the first variation engine but with a 210 km/h top speed. It is even faster because it can move from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.
The petrol plug-in hybrid comes with a 2,488 cc (2.5L) engine with an output of 141 kW (189 hp) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft). It is paired with a permanent-magnet synchronous motor with an output of 129 kW (173 hp) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft). The combined system output is 241 kW (323 hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft). This PHEV has a larger lithium-ion battery of 17.8 kWh (355 V) and can move from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.
Also worth noting is that the CX-90 PHEV boasts a 490-mile combined petrol and electric range. It offers a 1500 W output for charging electronics equipment and 14.9 cubic feet of cargo space. This new model also has a panoramic moonroof and an optional second-row bench or dual captain’s chair with a center console. Lastly, the cabin designs borrow many cues from CX-50 and MX-30 SUVs, making it the perfect car that strikes a balance between functionality and style.
